Impact in Rapid City

Volunteers of America Inc

When Jamie first connected with VOA, she and her family were living in an abandoned hotel, doing their best to stay safe and warm while facing overwhelming uncertainty. Both Jamie and her daughter were struggling with their mental health, and the family had few resources to stabilize on their own. Through patient outreach, consistent communication, and trauma-informed support, VOA was able to enroll the family in the Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) program, providing immediate stability and a path toward long-term housing. The team coordinated with landlords, benefit programs, and mental health providers to ensure the transition into safe housing was smooth and sustainable. Today, Jamie and her family are thriving. She is working full-time and continues to maintain stable housing, while her daughter is back in school and receiving ongoing emotional support. The family now has a renewed sense of safety and purpose, and Jamie often shares how grateful she feels to have a stable home where her daughter can “just be a kid again.” Her story is a powerful reminder that housing is more than shelter, it’s the foundation from which healing, growth, and hope can finally take root.
