The Salvation Army of the Black Hills
Amber, our Social Services Coordinator in Spearfish, recently recalled meeting Dianna — a client who fled an abusive spousal situation in Wyoming. Dianna arrived at a local domestic violence shelter in Spearfish with nothing but the clothes on her back, seeking assistance with clothing.
During their extended conversation, Amber learned that Dianna’s immediate goals included finding a safe home of her own and bringing her children into a stable environment. Sadly, Dianna’s children were not yet with her because she couldn’t safely get them away.
That day, Amber provided Dianna with clothing vouchers and shared helpful resources to support her next steps. A month later, Dianna returned for our Christmas distribution event, and she was overjoyed to share that she would be moving into her own place on January 1 — and her children would be joining her.
Dianna’s demeanor was completely transformed; she was radiant with happiness and relief. Amber remarked that it’s truly inspiring to see how a family’s life can change for the better when given the support and resources they need.
Thanks to generous donors like you, United Way of the Black Hills is able to make stories like this possible!
