Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity
Habitat was able to partner with the City of Hot Springs in a unique way, which we intend to replicate in other communities in our service area. We collaborated with the City Inspector to set up a day at the library where residents could come to complete an application for home repairs, make copies of their supporting documentation, and ask questions of staff. The event was a complete success, with over 20 applicants stopping by throughout the day. The City made residents aware of the date, particularly those homeowners currently in violation of city ordinances but without funds to make the repairs to their homes. Meetings have also been held in City of Custer, where a group of concerned citizens are talking with Habitat about solutions to their housing shortage, which is causing them to struggle to keep the school and hospital staffed.
