Impact in Rapid City

Meals on Wheels – Western SD

Linda and Joe moved to Rapid City last spring in order to be closer to the hospital. Joe had been hospitalized due to complications with diabetes and ended up needing an amputation. Both Linda and Joe have significant disabilities that prevent them from working, and the added mobility constraint has made living independently even harder for the couple. Additionally, their only form of income is their monthly disability payments, which support the two of them and their two dogs. After moving to town, they were connected with Meals on Wheels resources. Home delivery works perfectly for them. Each day, warm, diabetic friendly meals are delivered to their apartment, and kind neighborhood volunteers visit with the couple. Linda and Joe's quality of life and overall happiness have significantly improved since we began providing services. Nutritious meals are not off the table despite their fixed income and limited mobility, and neither are connections to their new community. Additionally, our Kibbles of Kindness Program assists them further by providing regular food for their two pups.
