Fork Real Community Café Inc – Improving Quality of Life through Food Access & Workforce Development
This is a story of Mark. Mark, who's over the age of 60, found Fork Real Cafe through a referral from a partner organization. He moved to Rapid City in hopes of looking for steady employment. He began volunteering at the cafe, and we quickly learned that he was a hard worker and a quick learner around the kitchen. As we built a relationship with Mark, we learned that he had a non-operating vehicle. Our team reached out to SHIFT Garage to see if they would tow Mark's car to the shop for a diagnostic check. Dave assisted Mark with the diagnostic check and learned that he needed a new starter and battery. Fork Real assisted him with getting the parts he needed. This car had not started in two years. Mark had been walking to job interviews and Fork Real before we were able to repair the car. By having a reliable car, Mark eventually the steady employment he was looking for. Fork Real is a valued community partner that provides opportunities and works with other community partners to give people a "step forward" instead of a handout.
