After decades of living in fear, one local woman has taken brave steps toward reclaiming her life and creating a safe space for herself. With the help of affordable counseling services through Catholic Social Services, she made the life-changing decision to leave an abusive marriage and begin the journey toward healing.
In her words, she now feels safe 98% of the time — a milestone that would have once felt unimaginable.
Throughout her counseling sessions, she has been working to manage the lingering effects of trauma: flashbacks, nightmares, and chronic stress. Together, she and her counselor are also building tools to establish healthy boundaries — not just with her ex-husband, but with her children as well — to protect her hard-earned peace and autonomy.
