Impact in Sturgis

Working Against Violence Inc – Project THRIVE

A woman from Sturgis contacted WAVI’s 24-hour crisis line after experiencing months of intimidation, threats, and physical violence from her partner. Living in a smaller community made it difficult for her to seek help privately, and she feared everyone would find out if she left. WAVI staff worked with her to create a confidential safety plan and coordinated transportation to safe shelter. Once connected with services, she received comprehensive case management, emotional support, and assistance navigating legal concerns and financial barriers. Her case manager also connected her with local community resources and helped her develop a long-term plan for stable housing and employment. Through ongoing encouragement and support, she was able to safely separate from her abuser and begin rebuilding her independence. She later shared that having someone believe in her and help without judgment gave her the courage to keep moving forward.
