One day, we received a call from a local Rapid City resident who was curious about our vehicle placement program, UpSHIFT. After the Director at our Rapid City location explained how UpSHIFT works, the woman on the other end of the line started crying. This Rapid City woman had fallen on hard times. She had recently gotten into a car accident in town, and the crash totaled her vehicle and left her hospitalized. In the aftermath, she was too injured to work or leave the house, save a few occasions. She didn’t have friends or family who could take her to medical appointments or help her run errands. What she needed was a new vehicle, but she didn’t have much to spend and feared she’d be taken advantage of by unethical dealerships. The woman didn’t have a way to come to UpSHIFT to see our inventory, but our director offered to pick her up at her house so she could come test drive vehicles. We didn’t have the right vehicle for her in Rapid City, but there was a Jeep available in Sioux Falls that she was interested in. A SHIFT Garage employee from Sioux Falls brought the Jeep over to Rapid City, and we were able to place the Jeep with our injured client. Now she’s able to get to medical appointments and run errands herself, all without spending money she didn’t have or getting taken advantage of. When we placed her with her new vehicle, she cried again, but they were tears of joy.
