Victims of Violence Intervention Program
The ER called the crisis line regarding a young woman in for Domestic Violence, she had been beat up and had strangulation marks from her boyfriend. She was very upset and unsure of wanting to stay for treatment, she consented to talking to advocate. The advocate arrived at the ER and spent time listening to the victim and answering her questions. Afterward, she felt calm enough to consent to medical procedures to assess any injuries from the event. She was checked into shelter and provided clean clothing and food for the evening. Over the next week, we assisted her in navigating the legal process and referred to counseling. We helped her sign up for SAVIN and apply for crime victims’ compensation.
