Journey On Inc – Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Program
Northern Hills LOSS Team The expansion of LOSS Team services into the Northern Hills region reflects the power of community-driven leadership and the impact of meaningful volunteer engagement. This effort began when the Journey On LOSS Team Director created and facilitated a volunteer training program designed to educate and equip community members to respond compassionately to suicide loss. Among those in attendance was Kelli Thompson, who demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting individuals and families affected by suicide. After completing the training and becoming an active Journey On LOSS Team volunteer, she, alongside a dedicated group of peers, recognized the need for these services within the Northern Hills region of Lawrence County. Motivated by both lived experience and a desire to serve, this group began laying the groundwork to establish their own LOSS Team. Through these efforts, the Northern Hills LOSS Team was formed and is currently in the process of becoming fully operational. Their work represents a significant step toward increasing access to timely, compassionate postvention services for individuals impacted by suicide in rural communities. This success story highlights how training, mentorship, and community passion can come together to expand critical support systems assuring that no one navigates the aftermath of suicide loss alone.
