EmBe – Girls on the Run
I am a fifth-grade teacher in Sturgis and was a coach for Girls on the Run and had a couple of my students in the program. After listening to and teaching the lessons I had a really good understanding of what the program stood for and what they wanted the girls to take away from it.
Like I stated earlier, I had a couple of the girls in my own classroom. One girl in particular stands out to me with which the Girls on the Run program had a positive impact on her life. She is a very shy girl and is apprehensive about stepping out of her comfort zone. I have seen her accelerate in Girls on the Run by pushing herself to try her best and increase her distance each time and also have witnessed her talking to students and participating in the classroom and when she would have likely been not so willing to do so before. She became comfortable with herself, which has opened the door for so much more.
Thanks to generous donors like you, United Way of the Black Hills is able to make stories like this possible!
