Impact in Rapid City

TEAMMATES MENTORING PROGRAM-TeamMates of Rapid City

In January 2024, Roberta Donovan became a mentor with TeamMates of Rapid City, bringing her warmth and enthusiasm to the program. Paired with a third grader who was initially shy and struggled to stay engaged in school, Roberta’s weekly meetings quickly became a highlight for both of them. Through shared activities like board games and goal setting, Roberta built a strong connection with her mentee. Over time, she saw her mentee grow more confident, not only in school but also in their ability to communicate and work with others. The games they played together became a way to practice important skills like teamwork, time management, and problem-solving. For Roberta, the experience has been equally rewarding. “Watching my mentee grow and hearing about their progress has been one of the most fulfilling experiences for me,” she says. Roberta has seen noticeable improvements in her mentee’s attendance, enthusiasm for school, and relationships with classmates. Teachers have also remarked on the positive changes in the mentee’s attitude and behavior. Roberta’s journey with TeamMates is a powerful reminder of how mentorship can create lasting impact. Her dedication has made a real difference in her mentee’s life, and the bond they share is a reflection of the value of consistent, caring support.
