Your Generosity in Action

When a severely neglected infant was discovered strapped into a car seat for days in soiled clothing, his father and paternal grandmother immediately sought medical help — the child had developed third-degree burns and was in critical need of care.

The child’s young mother had been hosting parties and social gatherings, unable to provide proper care. As the child was placed with his father, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the 7th Circuit stepped in to help the family navigate the overwhelming challenges ahead.

Although the mother briefly reengaged for visitation, she eventually stepped back again after learning of a new pregnancy. Meanwhile, the father, now the child’s full-time caregiver, faced his own struggles — including financial instability that forced him to move in with his mother.

With unwavering support from CASA, the father continued working hard to improve their situation. Thanks to coordinated services and his determination, he secured housing and daycare assistance, allowing him to return to work and provide for his child.

Thanks to generous donors like you, United Way of the Black Hills is able to make stories like this possible!
