Your Generosity in Action
For many individuals experiencing domestic abuse, the path to safety is complex and deeply personal. One woman in the Black Hills region is taking courageous steps toward a new beginning — with the help of counseling through Catholic Social Services.
Trapped in a cycle of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse made worse by her husband’s addiction, she turned to counseling as a lifeline. Each session provides her with a safe space — free from judgment or fear — to explore her situation, process her emotions, and begin to envision a safer future for herself and her children.
Progress is slow but meaningful. Through counseling, she’s beginning to recognize that choosing to leave an abusive relationship does not equal failure — it’s a powerful act of self-respect and protection. Her counselor continues to walk beside her, offering support, perspective, and encouragement as she finds her own strength.
Thanks to generous donors like you, United Way of the Black Hills is able to make stories like this possible!
