Your Generosity in Action

Last spring, 17-year-old Amy was experiencing thoughts of suicide, self harm and depression. She had experienced a lot of trauma in her life. Amy was referred to Canyon Hills Center in Spearfish, a youth focused residential treatment center that serves kids from 10-17 who have emotional, behavioral health, and educational challenges. There, Amy received the help she needed. She also set a goal to graduate from high school and worked hard to make that goal happen. Amy graduated from high school and is now continuing her education at a vocational program to become a nursing assistant.

Adversity like what Amy faced can create negative, long-lasting consequences. With mental health intervention, Amy not only achieved her goal of graduating high school, but is now working to secure a financially independent future.

This is just one story of one life changed. UWBH supports more than 40 different nonprofits serving the Black Hills and each one has hundreds of stories of lives changed thanks to your donation to UWBH.

When you partner with the United Way of the Black Hills, you’re partnering with organizations like the Canyon Hills Center and helping young people move forward with their lives.
