Your Generosity in Action
Thanks to your support, United Way of the Black Hills is proud to share real stories — told in the words of our partners — that show how your generosity is making a difference every day.
YMCA of Rapid City – Custer Kidstop & Summer Camp
We have a boy who has been in the program since he was 5 years old who has physical/learning disabilities. He actually aged out of the program last year, but we are allowing him to continue because parents are not comfortable with him being home by himself after school.
We are using him as a “junior staff person”, to give him a sense of responsibility and allow him to stay in a safe environment while developing some leadership skills and self-dependence.
As a result of our work he is now riding the bus 2 days per week to his mom’s workplace, and she feels like he has made significant growth as a result of his afterschool/day camp involvement. We are excited about his growth and the fact we are dramatically changing his life by the opportunities he is receiving through our programs.
Thanks to generous donors like you, United Way of the Black Hills is able to make stories like this possible!
