Your Generosity in Action

At Kid’s Club Kids, many children come from single-parent households — including two brothers who recently began expressing worry that they could no longer attend the program. They were anxious and upset, telling staff they “cost too much for Mom.”

Behind their concern was a very real struggle. Their mother had recently lost child support and no longer qualified for Childcare Assistance. Despite cutting back on every expense possible, she had reached a point where difficult decisions had to be make — and the boys’ care was one of them.

After learning more about the situation, staff were able to apply United Way of the Black Hills funding to help cover her outstanding balance, ensuring the boys could continue to attend the program. This not only provided them with a safe and familiar place to be after school, but it also gave their mother much-needed peace of mind.

Thanks to this support, she was able to seek counseling for the boys, and their counselor now visits them at the program — helping them feel heard and supported emotionally. It also means their mom can work longer hours, knowing her children are cared for in every way.

Looking ahead, United Way funds will help provide the boys with meaningful summer experiences — including swimming lessons and field trips — opportunities they might otherwise have missed.

Thanks to generous donors like you, United Way of the Black Hills is able to make stories like this possible!
