Lifeways has been partnering with Custer Schools for over 17 years in addiction prevention and intervention. This partnership is a success story — reaching thousands of students with support over the years. One of the big successes from the program is the Gaming Club. Not only are students attending in person, students are also participating online. Gaming Club offers an opportunity for students to participate in healthy, substance free activities at home or away.
Lifeways’ partnership with the Custer School District fills a gap that allows students in Custer to have a safe environment to go to after school. By partnering with the United Way of the Black Hills, you are also partnering with organizations like Lifeways that are working to prevent addiction in the young people of Custer.
This is just one story of one life changed. UWBH supports more than 40 different nonprofits serving the Black Hills and each one has hundreds of stories of lives changed thanks to your donation to UWBH.

3093 People received financial stability services through affordable transportation, affordable housing, utility assistance, and the 2-1-1 Helpline to connect to other local resources.
248 Children were able to participate in education programs including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Black Hills Reads programs and grants, after school and mentorship programs.
263 Individuals connected with needed programs and supports through 2-1-1.
284 People received health services like affordable mental health counseling, access to food and domestic violence shelter and resources.
